As promised a slightly more detailed account of atp.
It was great. Such a lovely atmosphere, really laid back. Saw lots of great bands. Played lots of air hockey, some crazy golf (which really wasn't that crazy). Watched some gokarting. Stalked some bands. Spent a lot of time on trains.
When I've gone to other festivals people have said that you see the musicians wandering round, I never have. At atp they were everywhere. Which was odd (would probably have been odder if I'd have known what more of them looked like), but cool.
I saw lots of bands that I'd never seen before, and liked lots. Discovery of the weekend being Western Keys. Tony and Mikie had heard them soundchecking and thought they were worth checking out. And they were, Marie, Tony and I pretty much gushed at Ben, the lead singer, after their set. Also of note was that they had a guitarist who'd been playing with Okkervil River earlier in the day. Turns out he isn't technically in either band, but subs for both. Also turns out that Ben is Okkervil River's manager. When talking to Ben I noticed that Travis, the drummer in Okkervil (who I have a tiny crush on) was at the side of the stage. Marie asked Ben if he could get Travis to come over, thinking he'd come to the front of the stage and he'd say hi. But no, he properly came to speak to us. And was lovely, and hammered. Marie told him I loved him, I replied 'I know!' when he asked my name and then told me his. Marie gave him gin. And he told us lots about Dr Pepper. I *heart* the happy drummer.
We saw him again the next day when he sat near us in the pub/beer garden thing. And failed in being stealthy. Okkervil were as amazing as expected. Will however won for schoolboy errors. He had his fly down for the whole set, and pulled the lead out of his mic.
